Michael: Come on Lucas, it's time to leave. We can't take everything, just what we need. [Gives a backpack to Lucas] Listen I know this is tough, but we don't have a choice. We have to get to the Wall, we'll be safe on the other side. [Prepares his stun gun] I'm gonna look out for you, but I need you to do the same for me. Okay? You're going to be my second in command. Let's go.
Lucas: Coming, dad.
Lucas and Michael hears repeated knockings on their front door.
Michael: This way. Quick.
They head to a balcony and vault over.
Michael: Ok, come on.
They vault over another balcony. Michael catches Lucas and tries to look reassuring.
Michael: We're gonna be okay, Lucas. I promise. This isn't forever. We'll be back. This is Vekta, this is our home. And it always will be. I want you to remember that, okay? Now don't make any noise and stick to the shadows. Come on.
If Lucas strays too far.
Michael: Lucas, get in here!
They come to a corner where there are Helghast drones patrolling.
Michael: We have to be quiet. Okay, wait here. Don't move until I tell you.
Lucas: I won't.
Michael runs to the cover.
Michael: Now, Lucas. Now!
Lucas runs over.
Michael: You're doing great. As long as we're smart, we'll be fine.
Lucas: Okay, dad.
Michaels runs to the next cover.
Michael: Now, Lucas. Now!
Lucas runs over.
Michael: These things need to give up.
The drone leaves.
Michael: Okay, we're clear.
Thomas Sinclair drops near a cover and gesture to Michael and Lucas.
Sinclair: Quick, get over here!
Michael: Is that one of us?
Sinclair: Come on!
Michael: Who are you? What are you doing here?
Sinclair: Stay out of sight. Don't move.
The three hide themselves as a Helghast patrol move past them.
Sinclair: Get down.
One Helghast trooper sticks behind for a moment before moving on.
Sinclair: This way.
Michael: We're going to go with him for now.
Michael and Lucas follows Sinclair to a building.
Michael: Thanks.
Sinclair: Is this your kid?
Michael: I'm taking him to the Wall.
Sinclair: Looks like you're going to need some help.
Michael: You're a Shadow Marshall, aren't you? Why are the Helghast doing this to us? There was an agreement; we were guaranteed safe passage out of here.
Sinclair: Hey buddy, I don't like it any more than you do. But until you get to the Wall, it's their rules. Like I said, you're gonna need some help...
Michael: You can get us to the Wall? Safely?
Sinclair: Look, the south crossing is closed so we're going to have to take the long way around. We've wasted enough time here already.
Michael: What's your name?
Sinclair: Sinclair.
Michael: I'm Michael Kellan. [He shakes Sinclair's hand] This is my son, Lucas. [To Lucas] We're going to go back outside. I want you to stay close to me and don't make any noise. Okay? You're doing great. [To Sinclair] I'm trusting you.
Sinclair: [To Lucas] Your dad's a smart man, kid. Let's go.
Sinclair is having troubling unlocking the door.
Michael: What's wrong?
Sinclair: The door is jammed. There's something blocking that door. [Looks through a window] There's a hole in the roof. One of us might be able to squeeze through, drop down and clear what's blocking it. [Looks to Lucas] We need to move. It's too late to turn back now.
Lucas: I can do it.
Sinclair: He's the only one small enough to fit through there.
Michael goes up a ramp and gesture to Lucas.
Michael: Come on.
Michael prepares to vault Lucas up.
Michael: Now once you get up there I want you to stay out of sight and I want you to go straight for the hole, okay?
Lucas: Sure.
Sinclair: Seems like a good kid.
Michael: He's always had his own way of doing things.
Sinclair: He's braver than some of the adults around here. Did he make it?
Michael: He's inside. Lucas, over here.
Lucas removes a piece of wood blocking the door.
Michael: Lucas, we couldn't have done that without you.
A drone appears.
Sinclair: Drone!
They take cover. The drone scans the room before leaving.
Sinclair: Let's go. Keep it low!
They make to a cover and sees Helghast soldiers moving by them until one stands guard. Sinclair aims his gun.
Michael: No. I'll take care of him.
Michael fires his stun gun on the soldier. Sinclair moves to the stunned Helghast.
Michael: It's okay, he's just stunned.
Sinclair fatally shoots the stunned soldier.
Michael: What are you doing?
Sinclair: Take no chances.
Michael: No, I didn't sign up for this.
Sinclair: No, you signed up for my help. This is it. Worry about your conscience when we're on the other side. Come on. We're not far from the Wall.
They run to the next section and are closer to the Wall.
Sinclair: Alright, listen up. It's just ahead, but there's still a lot of danger. Wait here while I check things out.
Sinclair moves on and scale over a wall.
Michael: You hear that, Lucas? We're almost there, but we gotta be careful.
A drone sudden appears and spots them.
Michael: Move! This way!
Michael scales the wall. Lucas grabs Michael's hand but the latter is shot.
Lucas: No!
They both fall to the ground as three Helghast approaches them.
Helghast Trooper: Targets apprehended.
Michael: Uhhhhhh! Lucas, stay behind me. [To the soldiers] Wait! Wait, we were promised safe passage. Please I've got a son with me. We're unarmed. [Sees soldiers are not listening] Hey stop! Stop! You can't do this! This is our home too!
Michael is fatally shot.
Lucas: NOOOO!
The soldiers points their gun at Lucas who backs away. Sinclair suddenly jumps in and dispatches the soldiers with his combat knife.
Lucas: What's wrong with him? Why isn't he moving?!
Sinclair checks on Michael.
Sinclair: Oh damn it.
Lucas: What's going to happen to me?
Sinclair: Well looks like you're gonna have to stick with me kid. Come on. We'll be okay once we get to the other side of the Wall. Come on!
Sinclair picks up Lucas and begin walking to the Wall.
8 years later
Sinclair: Well done, Lucas. You're the youngest cadet ever to be admitted to the Shadow Marshall Academy. You should be proud. I know if your father was here he'd feel the same way.
Scene shifts to Lucas, captured and beaten.
10 years later
Sinclair and Lucas look over Vekta City.
Sinclair: All our people want is to be kept safe. That means taking the fight to the Helghast. It means crossing the Wall. No matter what they do, it's still Vekta over there. One day you're gonna get it back. For all of us.
Scene shifts back to a captured Lucas being beaten.
14 years later
Sinclair: The Shadow Marshall program is honored to have you, Lucas. You know where you have to go. And you know what happens if you get caught. You're led out, on the Wall in chains, with a bag over your head. Paraded, and mocked, and then executed.
The Wall, June 7th 2390
Lucas is unmasked by Anton Saric.
Saric: You have no idea how sickening this is to us. Forced to live here alongside the people who destroyed our planet.
Lucas is dragged to the prisoner exchange.
Saric: And then there are people like you, Lucas Kellan. Judging us, treating us like we are the criminals.
Lucas is shoved to the ground.
Saric: This Wall won't protect you forever, Shadow Marshall. We will march through it and take the rest of your city.
Lucas: Try it. It won't be easy as the last time.
Saric gesture the soldier to keep dragging Lucas before punching him. They soon reach the exchange area.
Saric: Halt.
A VSA Security trooper presents a Helghast prisoner, Echo.
Saric: By the supreme command of Lady Hera Visari [both the VSA and the Helghast trooper remove the handcuffs from their respective prisoner] and in accordance with Statute Eight of the Peacetime Convention, we hereby sanction the release and exchange of detainees and for them to be returned immediately.
A gunshot is fired and the VSA soldier is shot. Lucas turns around and sees a rocket flying towards them and hitting the area between the two sides. Everyone is knocked to the ground, while VSA and Helghast forces open fire on each other. Lucas grabs a gun and shoots his Helghast guard before he is knocked down by Echo, who then seize his weapon. She aims her gun on Lucas but hesitates before running to the New Helghan side. A VSA soldier runs up to Lucas.
VSA soldier: Are you alright? This way.
Kellan the VSA soldier run toward the Vektan side and escape.
